Professor Elisabeth Weiss

Professor Elisabeth Weiss is a specialist psychiatrist with over four decades of experience in public sector, rural, and forensic psychiatry in South Africa. She completed her medical training in Germany and undertook postgraduate specialist training in psychiatry at the University of Cape Town. She previously held senior leadership roles, including Head of Forensic Psychiatric Services in Mpumalanga, and was instrumental in the development and implementation of integrated forensic psychiatric services across multiple provinces.

Now retired from the public sector, Professor Weiss forms an integral part of the clinical team at White River Manor and played a key role in the establishment of the new mental health clinic. Her clinical work is informed by extensive experience in forensic assessment, patient management, and service development, with a strong emphasis on ethical practice, clinical governance, and patient-centred care.
