Clinical Psychologist

Nicola Munro

Nicola Munroe is our Clinical Psychologist. She divides her time between private clinical practice in Nelspruit, White River Manor and neuropsychological medico-legal report writing. She has been practising as a Clinical Psychologist for 14 years.

Nicola believes in a client-centred and tailored approach to psychotherapy that is driven by the client’s needs and considers each individual holistically, including one’s context, personality, communication style, background, spirituality and biology.

Cognitive behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Methods, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Enneagram Work, Narrative Approaches, Guided Imagery and Psychodynamics are some of the approaches she draws from.

Nicola completed her Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Psychology (2001, Summa Cum Laude), an Honours Degree in Psychology (2002, Cum Laude) and an MA Degree in Clinical Psychology (2004, Cum Laude) at the University of KwaZulu Natal.

She is a member of the Golden Key Society and has completed an honours research in the field of sport psychology and exercise and running addiction. Her Master’s Thesis investigated the role of forgiveness and unforgiveness in psychological health.

She completed her internship at two psychiatric hospitals (Fort Napier Psychiatric Hospital and Town Hill Psychiatric Hospital) as well as a trauma counselling centre and a child and family assessment centre. Nicola has also worked in Durban in the field of Neuropsychology, doing an assessment, therapy and cognitive rehabilitation with patients who had sustained head trauma or who were diagnosed with neuropsychiatric disorders. This is where her passion and fascination with the brain began. Since then, Nicola has annually attended the NASA (Neurological Association of South Africa) Congress and continues to work in the field of neuropsychology part-time.

My focus has been on developing a personalised approach to therapy where a thorough investigation of the clients’ needs is conducted in order to discover one’s unmet needs.
